Distribution of water-saving kits
CHANGING CONSUMPTION HABITS
Water-saving kits were distributed free of charge to those individuals and authorities who had expressed interest, with the aim of modifying consumption habits. The kits were installed at different water points (taps, showers and toilets). The objective was to measure their impact on water consumption and, by extension, on drinking water supplies.
The kit contained an eco-shower head or flow reducer, a toilet tank water-saving bag and two aerator tap nozzles for kitchen and bathroom sinks. The kit varied according to the size of households and how they were equipped.
Kits were distributed on a voluntary basis between May 2013 and June 2015, and involved more than 72% of the municipalities of Gironde with the participation of 393 municipalities and 509,000 customers out 582,000 in the whole département.
Thanks to the involvement of local authorities and partners, more than 80,000 kits were distributed in Gironde and nearly 60,000 households equipped.
FOCUS ON MERIGNAC... STRONG PARTICIPATION IN THE DISTRIBUTION OF KITS
7,471 kits were distributed in Mérignac. Mérignac Town Council, a partner of the project, used different methods to distribute the kits: collection from the town hall, cooperation with social landlords, promotion during events, hotels, joint ownership associations, businesses, etc. This achieved 90% of the target set at the project’s launch, involving one fifth of Mérignac households.
