Installation of water-saving equipment in public buildings

EQUIPPING MUNICIPALITIES AND RAISING AWARENESS FOR ENHANCED WATER MANAGEMENT

Water-saving equipment was installed in public buildings of the municipalities keen to carry out a water audit on their buildings and to improve their knowledge and management of drinking water consumption. The objective was to measure the impact of water-saving devices on the buildings’ consumption and, by extension, on drinking water supplies.

The project installed water-saving equipment in 108 public buildings (8 schools, 8 town halls, 4 childcare centres, 4 gymnasiums and sports halls, etc.), in other words practically all the public buildings of 8 Gironde municipalities.

Various devices - flow reducers, eco-showers, aerators, self-closing taps, toilet tank bags, automatic anti-leak valves, etc.  - were adapted to each building’s specific features and functions (sports halls, schools, associations, etc.).

This measure made it possible to carry out a water diagnosis and optimise the water networks of these public buildings and encouraged local representatives to learn more about public property and improve the management of their water budget.
